Amman – Olive Oil Presses and Producers Syndicate president Taysir Najdawi expects imported olive oil, brought through the International Olive Council, to enter local markets next week under approved quantities and standards.

Najdawi says recent first-rain showers improve olive fruit maturity after a long dry, hot period, but rainfall does not affect prices. Prices stabilise at 120–130 dinars per tin.

Agriculture Ministry allows import of 4,000 tonnes of olive oil to meet initial market needs, requiring imported containers not exceed 8 kg. Jordan’s annual need reaches 25,000 tonnes, and the ministry says no monopolies will occur in the import process.

Import approvals begin this week; after meeting local demand, the ministry may open export of Jordanian olive oil.
