Middle East University opens student parliament session with election body

Amman - The Chairman of the Independent Election Commission’s Board of Commissioners, Eng. Musa Al-Maaytah, stressed the importance of youth engagement in political life and elections, describing young people as a cornerstone of political reform and a driver of positive change.

His remarks came during the opening of the regular session of the Student Parliament Union Council at Middle East University. The event was attended by the Chairman of the University’s Board of Trustees, Dr. Yaqub Nasser Al-Din, University President Prof. Dr. Salam Al-Mahadeen, Dean of Student Affairs Dr. Hazem Al-Nsour, and the Head of the Partnership Project at the Independent Election Commission, Aws Qteishat.

Al-Maaytah highlighted the role of universities in fostering democratic values, describing them as key environments for nurturing future leaders and promoting dialogue, respect for diverse opinions, and a sense of responsibility.

Dr. Yaqub Nasser Al-Din affirmed the university’s commitment to strengthening democratic practices and student political participation, noting that students are central to development, reform, and future leadership. He described the initiative as an advanced model of democracy that empowers youth as influential contributors to decision-making and nation-building.

Dr. Al-Nsour emphasized that the Student Parliament Union serves as a practical school for democracy, encouraging responsible dialogue and constructive exchange of ideas. He urged members to continue the legacy of previous student representatives in voicing the concerns of the student body.

The session included a collective oath-taking by members of the Student Parliament Union Council before the University President, followed by an open dialogue. Participants praised the university's efforts to strengthen the parliament’s role and stressed the importance of collaboration in improving student services.

Through this initiative, Middle East University demonstrates a living example of preparing future leaders and instilling a culture of democracy and teamwork among youth.
