Amman- The Department of Statistics announced new Gross Domestic Product figures on Sunday.

The department stated in a release that 3.6 billion dinars were newly added to the GDP following a comprehensive revision of the national accounts.

The department said the revision spanned four years and was implemented with technical support from the UN Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia and the International Monetary Fund.

It clarified the revision aims to enhance the accuracy and reliability of economic data according to best international methodologies and practices.

The department updated the 2023 GDP figure to 39.8 billion dinars after updating data and expanding statistical coverage.

It stated that updating the base year to 2023 according to international standards and classifications increases the accuracy of national economy estimates and enhances their reliability per international standards and practices.

The department justified the increase, stating it resulted from including previously uncalculated economic activities, particularly in the informal sector.

The Department of Statistics confirmed the continuity of developing internationally approved methodologies, improving survey quality, adopting new data sources, and expanding electronic linkage.
