Weather Department warns via Rum: frost ice expected, snow chances unclear
Amman, 17 December 2025 — Head of Weather Forecasting Division at Jordan Meteorological Department, Eng. Ayman Soboh, says Kingdom sees typical winter conditions over coming days, including in temperatures and chances of rainfall in several areas, with no indicators of severe weather in near term.
Soboh says current rainy season appears promising, noting rainfall totals so far remain within seasonal averages, with expectations of further improvement in coming period.
On snow prospects toward end of month, Soboh says forecasts remain early, but weather models point to possibility of cold systems affecting Kingdom later this month.
He explains that Al-Murabbaaniya, coldest period of winter, starts in Jordan on 21 December and lasts 40 days, marked by sharp temperature drops, frost waves and very cold conditions, especially at night and early morning.
Soboh warns against exaggeration in unofficial forecasts circulating on social media, urging public to rely on official meteorological sources for accurate information and to avoid unnecessary concern.
Jordan Meteorological Department also warns of frost and ice formation due to low temperatures over high mountain areas, particularly southern highlands, as well as Badia regions, with temperatures possibly dropping below zero Celsius.
Department stresses risk of ice formation to public safety, especially regarding safe use of heating methods.
