Who are we? Question of generation, answer of homeland.
From personal conviction in importance of Crown Prince His Royal Highness Prince Hussein bin Abdullah request to document Jordan national narrative, I write today from political-psychological perspective.
Who are we, and why does this question feel more urgent than ever? Are we extension of long history, or idea reshaped anew? Is identity what we inherit, or what we choose to become?
At core, question is not anxiety but awareness. Awareness marks starting point of any genuine national project. When collective awareness matures, society begins to question itself to understand itself anew.
When Crown Prince raises national narrative, he does so with awareness of generation questions, not from doubt but from understanding that national identity in changing world is not preserved through repetition, but through language and tools of this generation. This generation asks to understand, not to recite. It seeks narrative that is not rigid copy.
For that reason, Crown Prince wants narrative where future generation becomes partner in storytelling, not passive recipient. Narrative not memorised from books, but created through initiatives and entrepreneurship. Question shifts from who am I, to why am I here, and what role will I play in next chapter.
Documentation reflects confidence in self, state and ability to evolve, to youthful identity that moves, thinks and holds firm to constants without fear of future. Narrative of state built amid storms, choosing stability. State that could have closed in, but chose openness. State believing human being is true capital.
Jordan, land of successive civilisations, from Nabataean depth to radiance of Islamic civilisation, to central role in modern Arab history, remains meeting point of cultures, trade corridor and space of religious and cultural interaction. From early on, it chose to be state of meaning, principles and constants, not reactive positions.
Yet narrative in true sense means interpretation of history, not mere facts. Shift from rote memorisation to conscious understanding, turning narrative into framework of responsibility governing relationship between individuals, state and law. Aim is to change reality, not justify it, so narrative does not calcify, preserving rational, open and responsible national narrative toward stability and progress.
Question remains open.
Do we merely belong, or do we add?
How do we turn identity into energy for production, innovation and opportunity?
Let us launch it now, as Crown Prince intended.
