Prime Minister Dr. Jaafar Hassan instructed relevant ministries and concerned authorities to immediately mobilize all necessary capabilities to address damage caused by prevailing weather conditions, and to maintain a state of emergency to deal with any expected weather developments in the coming period.
The Prime Minister also directed a number of ministers to conduct field visits to southern governorates to assess the impact of heavy rainfall on infrastructure and to begin rehabilitation work immediately.
He stressed the importance of assessing damage to infrastructure and public facilities in some areas, providing the necessary allocations for maintenance as quickly as possible from emergency funds, and taking immediate measures to ensure citizens’ safety and maintain the operation of affected facilities, particularly transportation services.
Hassan further emphasized the need for continued coordination among all ministries and relevant authorities, and for preparing personnel, equipment, and machinery, while placing all capabilities at readiness to deal with current weather conditions.
He noted that the good rainy season and recent rainfall have increased the Kingdom’s water reserves, signaling a promising agricultural and water season, while stressing the need for continuous monitoring of dams and water storage sites and dealing with any abnormal situations that may arise due to weather depressions and regional and global climate change.
He also underscored the importance of continuing awareness campaigns and taking seriously the warnings issued by competent authorities, especially for citizens living in areas most vulnerable to flash floods, to ensure their safety and prevent damage and accidents.
