United Arab Emirates reaffirmed commitment to security and stability of Saudi Arabia, full respect for its sovereignty and national security, and rejection of any actions that could threaten Saudi or regional security, stressing that relations between two countries form key pillar of regional stability and that coordination with Riyadh remains constant.
UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it has no connection to current tensions between Yemeni parties and denied exerting pressure on or directing any Yemeni side to carry out military operations affecting Saudi security or targeting its borders.
Ministry explained that shipment which docked in Mukalla, Yemen, contained no weapons and that vehicles unloaded were not intended for any Yemeni party but were shipped for use by UAE forces operating in Yemen. It noted high-level coordination on these vehicles with relevant authorities in Saudi Arabia and agreement that vehicles would not leave port.
UAE stressed that since onset of events in Hadramout and Al Mahrah, its position focused on containing situation, supporting de-escalation paths, and pushing toward understandings that preserve security, stability, and protection of civilians, in coordination with Saudi Arabia.
Foreign Ministry reiterated that UAE presence in Yemen came at invitation of legitimate Yemeni government and within Arab Coalition led by Saudi Arabia, aiming to support restoration of legitimacy and counterterrorism, while fully respecting Yemen’s sovereignty. It added that UAE made significant sacrifices since launch of coalition operations and supported Yemeni people throughout different stages.
Ministry said developments raise legitimate questions about handling and repercussions at a stage requiring highest levels of coordination, restraint, and wisdom, given existing security challenges and threats posed by terrorist groups including Al Qaeda, Houthis, and Muslim Brotherhood, within international efforts to combat terrorism and extremism and enhance prospects for de-escalation and stability.
Foreign Ministry stressed that handling recent developments must be responsible, prevent escalation, and be based on verified facts and existing coordination between concerned parties, in a way that safeguards security and stability, protects shared interests, and supports political solution path to end Yemen crisis.
