Ministry of Public Works and Housing, in cooperation with relevant security agencies, announces arrest of group involved in theft and vandalism of electrical transformers used for road lighting on Hasa–Tafilah road and Desert Highway in Sawaga area.
Ministry says attacks cause serious damage to lighting system, lead to shutdown of several units, and result in material losses to infrastructure and public funds, in addition to posing severe risk to road safety on these vital routes.
Ministry confirms referral of suspects to competent judicial authorities under Article 26 of Roads Law No. 24 of 1986 and its amendments, which stipulates imprisonment or fines for anyone who damages, vandalises or steals road facilities, equipment or lighting, with obligation to repair damage and cover cost of losses.
Ministry stresses continued monitoring and protection of road lighting projects in coordination with concerned bodies to curb any acts of sabotage, considering attacks on such facilities direct threat to state security and public safety, and urges citizens to report any suspicious activity promptly in order to protect public interest.
