On Monday, the Public Security Directorate began implementing a wide traffic campaign to control violations of non-adherence to the use of seat belts.
The Directorate stated in a book seen by the "Kingdom" that the campaign comes in implementation of the text of Article 38 of the Jordanian Traffic Law No. 49 of 2008, item 36.22, stating that whoever commits a violation of driving a vehicle without using a seat belt or carrying children is punished with a fine of 15 dinars. Under 10 years of age in the front seats of passenger cars and shared transit vehicles.
The campaign will include all vehicles, whether civilian or military, and the book states that the Public Security Directorate is the oversight body authorized to implement the law on everyone, "it is foremost that its salaries adhere to traffic rules and priorities before applying it to citizens."
The Directorate said: "According to scientific and practical studies, it was found that the use of seat belts by the driver and passengers reduces serious injuries by 50-60%."
And she stressed that "as a result of the failure of some drivers and those who disrespect the lives of citizens to the rules and priorities of traffic safety, the roads still claim more lives of innocent citizens, morning and evening, and cause human and material losses."
