Israel raises highest state of alert amid concerns over possible US intervention in Iran, as authorities there face largest anti-government protests in years, three informed Israeli sources say.
US President Donald Trump repeatedly threatens intervention in recent days, warning Iranian leaders against using force on protesters. On Saturday, Trump says United States ‘ready to help’.
Sources present at Israeli security consultations over weekend do not clarify what practical measures highest alert entails.
Israel and Iran fight 12-day war in June.
In phone call on Saturday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio discuss possibility of US intervention in Iran, according to Israeli source. US official confirms call but does not disclose topics discussed.
