Zaid Naffa’a
Secretary-General, Azm Party
As Jordanians mark 64th birthday of His Majesty King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein, they reflect on journey of an exceptional national leader who shaped project of Jordan modern state with statecraft, historical wisdom and future vision. Occasion goes beyond celebration, recalling achievements and deep transformations led by His Majesty with steadiness, courage and responsibility.
From first day of assuming constitutional powers, King set clear goal: build strong state with solid institutions, rule of law, political advancement and social cohesion. Reform was not situational choice but long-term strategic approach, advancing with confidence and flexibility without compromising national constants, security or unity.
Political reform: comprehensive royal vision
King led political reform based on conviction that real democracy measured by depth of participation, maturity of experience and citizens’ ability to influence public decision-making. Royal Discussion Papers emerged as advanced intellectual and constitutional reference, outlining features of modern civil state and defining political life befitting Jordanians.
Party life development: qualitative shift in state structure
Developing party life stood among boldest pillars of royal reform project. King repeatedly stressed political parties form backbone of any effective democratic system and that their weakness empties parliamentary work of substance and hinders emergence of programme-based governments.
Political modernisation framework triggered historic shift through modern legislation guaranteeing pluralism, legal environment protecting party work, empowerment of youth and women, and gradual move towards party-based parliaments and programme governments. Aim was not increasing number of parties, but redefining party as national platform with realistic programmes, competing on vision not personalities, operating under constitution with full loyalty to Jordan.
Leadership wisdom and state stability
Hashemite leadership balanced reform with stability amid turbulent region, choosing safe and gradual reform through dialogue and partnership, rejecting risky leaps or imported models unsuited to Jordan context. Years proved this wisdom safeguarded state and positioned Jordan as model of political moderation and democratic maturity.
People-first leadership
Political reform linked directly to citizen. King viewed Jordanians as core of development and youth as agents of change, opening doors to public life and encouraging participation in parties, elected councils and decision-making roles.
On this national occasion, Jordanians celebrate not only another year in life of their King, but path of a state and comprehensive national project. A leader who made reform commitment, party life national path and Jordan state of law and institutions, trusting its people.
May God protect His Majesty King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein, sustain him as wise leader and guardian of reform and modernisation, and keep Jordan strong with flag held high under his Hashemite leadership.
