Starting Sunday, a 16% sales tax is being applied to the contents of postal parcels whose customs value does not exceed 200 Jordanian dinars.
According to the government, the decision aims to encourage local spending and consumption instead of foreign purchasing, and to achieve fairness and equality between local traders, thereby stimulating domestic commercial activity and revitalizing the local market.
The Council of Ministers had decided in November 2025 to approve a zero customs duty and apply a 16% sales tax on the contents of postal parcels with a customs value of 200 dinars or less.
The Director General of Jordan Customs, Major General of Customs Ahmad Al-Akaleek, previously stated that small postal parcels valued at 200 dinars or less account for two-thirds of imports entering Jordan through e-commerce. He confirmed that postal parcels exceeding 200 dinars remain subject to the existing customs duties, are cleared through standard customs declarations, and no changes have been made to their applicable tariff rates.
The clothing and footwear sector across Jordan includes more than 11,000 traders and employs around 60,000 workers, the majority of whom are Jordanians.
