Israeli occupation authorities block travel of patients and wounded via Rafah land crossing south of Gaza Strip on Wednesday, after World Health Organization office informed cancellation of coordination for departure of third batch scheduled to leave for treatment.
Palestinian Red Crescent Society spokesperson Raed Al-Nims says WHO office informed them of cancellation despite completion of all procedures and preparation of patients at Red Crescent Hospital in Khan Younis, surprising concerned bodies and patients.
He adds that since reopening of crossing on Monday, only 50 patients and injured people, including companions, leave Gaza. On first day, 7 patients depart with companions, followed by 16 others with companions on second day, within 48 hours.
Al-Nims notes that cancellation comes amid stalling and obstacles imposed by occupation on patient travel despite urgent need for treatment outside Gaza, pointing out that around 18,500 patients and wounded need treatment abroad.
