Irbid, 4 February 2026 — On behalf of King Abdullah II and Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II, Royal Hashemite Court Chief Yousef Hassan Aysawi attends on Wednesday funeral of former prime minister Ahmad Obeidat, laid to rest in his hometown of Hartha in Bani Kinana District, Irbid Governorate.
Aysawi conveys condolences of King and Crown Prince to family of late statesman and Obaidat tribe, affirming Hashemite leadership appreciation of services rendered by deceased through long career of public service across senior positions.
He recalls virtues and national record of Obeidat, noting he was among Jordan figures who performed national duty with integrity and dedication, contributing to institutions he led.
Aysawi says late leader embodied values of loyalty to homeland and Hashemite leadership, leaving lasting national impact marked by wisdom and responsibility in office.
He prays for mercy upon the deceased and patience for his family and tribe.
Obeidat holds several senior posts, including prime minister and defence minister between 1984–1985, interior minister between 1982–1984, director of General Intelligence Department, member of Senate on several occasions, and goodwill ambassador for United Nations Environment Programme.
He also chairs Royal Committee for drafting National Charter between 1990–1991, serves as deputy head of Royal Committee for Human Rights in 2000, deputy head of Royal Committee for Judicial Reform same year, and chairman of Board of Trustees of National Centre for Human Rights from 2003 to 2008.
Ahmad Obeidat is born in Hartha, Irbid Governorate, in 1938, and awarded Order of the Renaissance First Class.
