Israeli forces on Wednesday released nine Palestinian detainees from the Gaza Strip who had been held since the start of the war.
The release comes as part of periodic transfers of Gaza detainees, many of whom are kept for months in Israeli prisons under conditions described by rights groups as falling below basic humanitarian standards, with testimonies alleging abuse.
Medical sources said the freed detainees were taken to Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah, central Gaza, where they underwent medical examinations upon arrival.
According to the sources, the detainees were transported from the Kissufim military crossing east of Gaza using vehicles operated by the International Committee of the Red Cross.
Israel had earlier freed about 1,700 Gaza detainees on October 13 under a ceasefire and prisoner exchange deal with Hamas. The agreement entered into force on October 10, 2025, following mediation by Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey, and under US oversight as part of a multi-phase arrangement.
