Oil prices rose on Wednesday, continuing gains from the previous day, after the United States shot down an Iranian drone and armed Iranian boats approached a U.S.-flagged ship in the Strait of Hormuz, renewing fears of heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran.

Brent crude futures climbed 65 cents, or 1.0%, to $67.98 per barrel at 01:11 GMT. U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude rose 69 cents, or 1.1%, to $63.90 per barrel. Both benchmarks had increased by nearly 2% on Tuesday.

The U.S. military announced on Tuesday that it had shot down an Iranian drone that approached the USS Abraham Lincoln “aggressively” in the Arabian Sea. (Reuters)
