Oil prices rose Wednesday, extending gains from Tuesday, after the U.S. shot down an Iranian drone and armed Iranian boats approached a U.S.-flagged vessel in the Strait of Hormuz, raising concerns over escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran.
Brent crude futures climbed 65 cents, or 1.0%, to $67.98 per barrel at 01:11 GMT, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude rose 69 cents, or 1.1%, to $63.90 per barrel. Both benchmarks had gained nearly 2% on Tuesday.
The U.S. military said it shot down an Iranian drone that approached the USS Abraham Lincoln “aggressively” in the Arabian Sea.
