The White House confirmed Thursday that the United States will hold nuclear negotiations with Iran on Friday in Oman, despite a recent incident in which a US warplane shot down an Iranian drone approaching the USS Abraham Lincoln in the Arabian Sea.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi had also indicated the talks would take place in Muscat, while earlier reports suggested Turkey as the likely venue.
Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters the meeting remains scheduled for later this week, stressing that President Trump prioritizes diplomacy, but noted that “it takes two to tango.”
Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, appointed by Trump as global conflict negotiator, is expected to meet Iranian officials in the session.
Leavitt confirmed that Trump continues to keep military options on the table, with US warships deployed in the region, adding that Iran is well aware of America’s readiness to respond.
