The Philippine Embassy in Amman marked the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations with Jordan by inaugurating a textile exhibition titled “KatHABI’t Ugnayan” at the National Gallery of Fine Arts. The event took place under the patronage of HRH Princess Wijdan Al Hashemi, President of the Royal Society of Fine Arts, and hosted distinguished guests from both nations.

Philippine Ambassador Wilfredo C. Santos highlighted the role of culture as a bridge between the Philippines and Jordan, noting that Filipino textiles represent identity, history, and community. He described the exhibition as a collaborative effort involving the Philippine Embassy, Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts, the Philippine Textile Research Institute under the Department of Science and Technology, the Philippine Textile Council (HABI), and Museo Pambata.

Julius L. Leano Jr., Director of the Philippine Textile Research Institute, emphasized the importance of promoting the Philippine textile industry on a global scale. Cultural performances by Kalinangan Amman, a Filipino dance group, added a dynamic celebration of Filipino heritage.

The exhibition showcased textiles made from natural fibers such as abaca, piña, cotton, and silk, highlighting traditional weaving techniques and products from various Filipino regions. It also traced Islamic influences on Philippine textiles, reflecting historical exchanges.

By combining traditional knowledge with modern scientific research, the exhibition demonstrates how indigenous materials can be transformed into contemporary fashion, sustainable designs, and creative industry products, emphasizing environmental sustainability, innovation, and economic growth.

“KatHABI’t Ugnayan” runs from 5 to 12 February 2026 at the National Gallery of Fine Arts in Jabal Luweibdeh.
