Norwegian Ambassador to Jordan Mona Juul resigned after her name appeared in newly released documents linked to billionaire Jeffrey Epstein, who died in prison while awaiting trial on charges of sexual abuse of minors and running a sex trafficking network.
A statement from the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday said Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide confirmed Juul’s resignation, noting that the ministry will continue investigating her conduct despite her stepping down.
Eide said the decision was “wise and necessary,” adding that Juul’s association with Epstein showed a lack of sound judgment, undermining the trust required for her position.
The Norwegian embassy in Amman had already recalled Juul on February 3 following the emergence of her name in the new Epstein documents.
Jeffrey Epstein, a U.S. businessman, was accused of running an extensive sexual exploitation network involving underage girls, some as young as 14, and was found dead in a New York jail in 2019.
The case files also mention numerous high-profile figures, including British Prince Andrew, former U.S. Presidents Bill Clinton and Donald Trump, former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak, singer Michael Jackson, and former New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson.
