King Abdullah II, during a meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Amman Monday, reaffirmed Jordan’s condemnation of illegal measures aimed at consolidating Israeli settlements and imposing sovereignty over West Bank.
King stressed full rejection of any decisions undermining legitimate rights of Palestinian people and their independent state based on two-state solution.
His Majesty emphasized need to maintain bilateral coordination and with regional and international partners to pressure for halting dangerous Israeli escalation that could inflame regional conflict.
Regarding holy sites in Jerusalem, King reaffirmed Jordan’s historic role in their custodianship under Hashemite guardianship.
On Gaza, King stressed implementing second phase of ceasefire agreement and intensifying unrestricted humanitarian aid to alleviate dire situation.
He also affirmed support for Palestinian Authority reform efforts serving interests of Palestinian people.
President Abbas appreciated Jordan’s continued support under King Abdullah II and highlighted importance of Hashemite custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.
