Amman – Jordan and China marked Chinese New Year 2026, Year of the Horse, with three days of cultural and tourism events at National Centre for Culture and Arts from 5–7 Feb. The programme was jointly organised by Amman Chinese Cultural Centre and Jordan National Culture Centre.
Events included a youth concert featuring Jordanian and Chinese performers, a family theatre show, and a cultural-tourism bazaar. Highlights included performances by Malek Madi, soprano Zina Barhoum, Violeta Al-Yousef, and the Mask Dance Troupe alongside Shaanxi Opera and Dance Theatre, blending Chinese and Jordanian artistic elements.
Opening ceremonies were attended by Minister of Culture Mustafa Al-Rawashdeh, Chinese Ambassador Guo Wei, National Centre Director Lina Al-Tal, Royal Film Commission Director Muhannad Al-Bakri, and Shaanxi Cultural Exchange Association Chair Li Manrui.
Ambassador Guo Wei emphasised that the festival strengthens cultural exchange between the two nations, noting that the Spring Festival is recognised by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage. Lina Al-Tal highlighted the role of joint programmes in giving youth a platform for creative expression. Shaanxi Cultural Centre Director Zhao Xiao Chiang underscored the events’ role in fostering friendship and youth exchange.
During the opening, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Jordanian National Culture Centre, Shaanxi Cultural Exchange Association, and Shaanxi Digital Arts Company for future collaboration in digital theatre.
The 6 Feb family theatre included Chinese shadow puppetry and children’s performances inspired by Chinese proverbs, staged by Jordanian directors and actors to highlight shared cultural values. On 7 Feb, the Chinese cultural-tourism bazaar opened under Culture Ministry Secretary-General Dr. Nidal Al-Ayasrah, featuring Hanfu costumes, Chinese tea, calligraphy, paper-cutting art, shadow puppets, and interactive experiences.
Promotional campaigns ran across Amman on public buses and LED screens in major squares throughout Feb, attracting large audiences to the celebrations.
