Prince Omar bin Faisal, President of the Jordanian Esports Federation, inaugurated the Zain Esports and Game Development Academy at University of Jordan on Monday.
The academy was established under a cooperation agreement signed last year between the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, Zain Jordan, and the University of Jordan. It aims to support young talent in esports, game development, and modern digital technologies, integrating the esports sector into the academic environment and aligning with Jordan’s economic modernization vision, which classifies the sector under creative industries.
Zain Jordan highlighted that the launch reflects its ongoing commitment to investing in Jordanian youth and supporting emerging digital sectors. The academy will provide a platform for local and university esports tournaments, specialized training courses, workshops in game development, digital content creation, live streaming, and event management.
The academy is linked to Zain’s Innovation Platform (ZINC), offering students access to a network of experts and entrepreneurs, enhancing their integration into Jordan’s innovation ecosystem.
Since 2020, Zain has supported the esports and gaming sector through its Zain Esports Jo, providing a university-level platform for players, developers, and content creators, and organizing local and regional tournaments.
The academy features advanced digital infrastructure, high-speed wired and wireless internet, and technical support, creating a comprehensive learning environment for students to develop practical skills in game design, digital content production, live streaming, and tournament management.
Samira Al-Zoubi, Secretary General of the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, noted that the academy supports the Jordanian Esports and Gaming Strategy 2023–2027 by establishing specialized centers within universities, raising awareness of the sector, discovering talent, and preparing professional players, developers, and content creators for regional and global competitions.
Dr. Nadhir Obeidat, President of the University of Jordan, emphasized the academy’s role in bridging academic learning with practical application, integrating digital production concepts into curricula, and opening new paths for innovation and entrepreneurship.
The initiative represents a sustainable model of public-private-academic partnership, fostering a national ecosystem for gaming and esports, enhancing Jordan’s digital economy, and creating career and production opportunities for youth.
