U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday accused former Democratic President Barack Obama of disclosing classified information after Obama recently said that extraterrestrials are real. Trump did not provide evidence to support the allegation.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One during a trip to Georgia, Trump said: “He took that from classified information… He’s not supposed to do that. He made a very big mistake.”
In an interview with Brian Tyler Cohen published Saturday, Obama was asked whether aliens are real.
Obama responded: “They are real, but I haven’t seen them, and they are not being held in… Area 51. There isn’t some underground facility unless there’s a massive conspiracy and they hid it from the President of the United States.”
Area 51 is a secretive U.S. Air Force facility in Nevada. Some speculate that it houses alien bodies and a crashed spacecraft. However, declassified archives from the Central Intelligence Agency released in 2013 indicated that the site was used for testing highly classified spy aircraft.
In a post on Sunday, Obama clarified that he was referring to the high probability of life elsewhere in the universe given its vastness, while noting that the likelihood of extraterrestrials visiting Earth is low due to immense interstellar distances.
When asked Thursday whether he had seen evidence of aliens, Trump replied: “I don’t know whether they’re real or not.”
