Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon on Monday killed 52 people, according to an updated official toll, as the Israeli military continued targeting sites it says belong to Hezbollah.
Lebanon’s Disaster Risk Management Unit reported in its daily bulletin that 52 people were killed and 154 injured as a result of the strikes, adding that 28,500 people have been displaced from their homes.
The Ministry of Public Health Lebanon had earlier announced a lower toll of 31 killed and 149 wounded.
Loud explosions were heard in Beirut on Monday evening, while additional airstrikes were reported on the southern suburbs of the capital. The National News Agency Lebanon said “enemy warplanes launched new raids on the southern suburbs.”
Earlier in the afternoon, the Israeli army carried out airstrikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs after issuing warnings to residents of buildings in more than 16 villages and towns in southern and eastern Lebanon to evacuate, alleging they were being used by Hezbollah.
Large plumes of smoke were seen rising from the targeted areas, and the National News Agency reported at least four Israeli airstrikes.
