U.S. Embassy in Amman Announces Staff Departure Due to Security Threat

The Embassy of the United States, Amman announced Monday evening via its social media accounts that all embassy personnel were instructed to temporarily leave the embassy compound due to a security threat or precautionary reasons, the details of which were not disclosed.
The U.S. Department of State’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) issued a security alert via email concerning the situation in the region. Individuals registered in the program received a notification regarding the status in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
According to the official notice, the precautionary measures included:
Evacuation of the compound: All U.S. embassy staff temporarily departed the embassy building.
The decision was taken as part of a security arrangement, the specifics of which were not made public.
The alert emphasized that the departure was carried out under a principle of “an abundance of caution.”
This step comes amid ongoing regional developments and rising tensions, prompting heightened protective measures for diplomatic missions.
