The U.S. Department of State announced Wednesday that it has raised the security alert level to Level 3 for Jordan, Oman, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.
In a statement, the department added that Egypt remains at Level 2. It also authorized the departure of non-essential U.S. government personnel and their family members from Saudi Arabia due to security risks.
Similarly, non-emergency U.S. personnel were permitted to depart from Oman.
On Monday, the State Department had urged American citizens to immediately leave 12 countries in the Middle East amid ongoing U.S. and Israeli strikes against Iran.
At the time, Assistant Secretary of State for Consular Affairs Mora Namdar said the department had advised Americans to depart from Bahrain, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Israel, the West Bank, Gaza Strip, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, the United Arab Emirates, and Yemen.
