The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates confirmed that it is closely following the details surrounding the deaths of two Jordanian citizens who were recruited to fight alongside the Russian army. This comes as part of the Ministry’s Directorate of Operations and Consular Affairs' ongoing efforts to monitor operations by foreign entities that deceive and illegally recruit Jordanian citizens.
The Ministry stated that it is coordinating with relevant authorities to make the necessary arrangements to repatriate the bodies of all citizens killed as a result of such recruitment back to the Kingdom. The Ministry offered its condolences, praying for mercy for the deceased and patience for their families.
Official Warnings and Demands
The official spokesperson for the Ministry, Ambassador Fouad Al-Majali, reiterated several firm stances regarding this issue:
Legal Violations: Recruiting Jordanian citizens to fight in foreign armies is a direct violation of both Jordanian and international law, and severely endangers citizens' lives.
Call for Reporting: The Ministry urges citizens to immediately report any attempts to recruit them into the Russian army and strongly warns against engaging with these recruiters.
Demands to Russia: The Ministry is officially demanding that Russian authorities cease the recruitment of Jordanians and immediately terminate the enlistment of any Jordanian citizen already serving in the Russian army. The Ministry emphasized it will take all available measures to halt this process.
Online Deception: Al-Majali renewed warnings about online entities that actively work to deceive and recruit Jordanians into foreign militaries.
The Ministry stressed that, in coordination with relevant national institutions, it is continuously tracking these illicit networks and taking all necessary legal and diplomatic actions to stop these practices and protect Jordanian citizens.
