Washington - US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken has said that China has long rejected the status quo on Taiwan, and that Beijing is accelerating its timetable to seize the island, according to the Washington Post.

Blinken added that the four-decade-old status quo on the island, in which he provided the island with weapons for self-defense, helped ensure that there was no conflict between the United States and China over Taiwan.

He added in an interview with Bloomberg News, “What has changed is a decision taken by the government in Beijing that the status quo is no longer acceptable, and that they want to speed up the process through which they will continue to reunify, in a direct way to seize the island.
