The Amiri Diwan of Qatar has announced that His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Amir of Qatar, received a telephone call from Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa on Sunday evening, March 8, 2026.
​During the call, the two leaders conducted a detailed review of the rapidly evolving situation in the Middle East. Both sides emphasized the critical importance of an immediate cessation of military escalation and discussed the potential for dangerous repercussions on both regional and international peace if the current tensions are not contained.
​President al-Sharaa reiterated Syria's condemnation of the ongoing Iranian aggression against Qatar and other nations in the region, labeling it a direct threat to state sovereignty and stability. For his part, the Amir of Qatar stressed the necessity of relying on diplomatic and political channels in accordance with the United Nations Charter to prevent the region from sliding further into chaos.
