Israeli Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir emphasized on Sunday that the ongoing war with Iran, which erupted on February 28, may require "a lot of time" to reach a conclusion.
​In a video message directed at Israeli troops and published by the military, Zamir stated, "Israel has been in a state of emergency for two years, and we must expect that this will take a lot of time; we must be patient."
​The region has witnessed a severe escalation since late February, when Israel and the United States initiated a campaign of airstrikes against Iran that resulted in the death of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. In retaliation, Tehran has launched extensive missile and drone attacks targeting Israel and various allied countries across the Middle East.
​The conflict has also severely disrupted vital global trade routes, with Iran enforcing a maritime blockade in the Strait of Hormuz and actively targeting oil tankers attempting to navigate the strategic crossing.
​Simultaneously, the northern front has completely fractured. On the night of March 1–2, Hezbollah launched multiple rocket barrages from Lebanon into northern Israel in direct response to Khamenei's assassination. This escalation has effectively dragged Lebanon into an open war, prompting devastating Israeli airstrikes across Lebanese territory.
