A Palestinian official said that about 3,000 residents of Jenin camp have left their homes since the Israeli occupation army launched a major operation in the northern occupied West Bank on Monday.
"About 3,000 people have left the camp so far," said Kamal Abu al-Rub, deputy governor of Jenin, adding that arrangements are being made to house them in schools and other shelters in Jenin.
He said that about 18 thousand Palestinians live in the camp.
A spokeswoman for the United Nations Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA), Juliet Touma, confirmed that residents had left the camp.
The Palestine Red Crescent evacuated about 500 Palestinian families from the Jenin camp in the occupied West Bank, in an operation that has now stopped, and came after the Israeli occupation forces threatened to bomb the camp, according to Ahmed Jibril, the director of ambulance and emergency at the Palestinian Red Crescent in Nablus, on Monday.
Jibril told Al-Mamlaka from inside the Jenin camp, and he participated in the evacuation process, that the association's staff helped evacuate about 500 Palestinian families from inside the camp, or about 3,000 people, in an operation that lasted about two hours and has now stopped.
He explained that the decision to evacuate was taken by the residents of the camp, noting that the Israeli occupation forces besieged Palestinian families living in the camp inside one room in their homes.
Ambulances from different Palestinian cities affiliated with the Palestinian Red Crescent transported the elderly from inside the camp to places outside it, in a process he described as “not easy,” according to Jibril. The other went to villages around the camp.
The Israeli bombing of the camp caused damage to its infrastructure.
And he talked about the cessation of Israeli raids on the camp now, noting that the Israeli occupation forces launched about 20 raids in the morning, according to Jibril.
The camp has a population of about 11.6 thousand Palestinian refugees until mid-2023, and it is located in the west of Jenin, on an area of 473 dunums, according to the Palestinian News and Information Agency, Wafa.
