The Jordanian Armed Forces (JAF) announced on Saturday that its air defenses have engaged 281 Iranian missiles and drones targeting the Kingdom's territory during the past five weeks of regional military escalation. The total includes 161 missiles and 120 drones.
Key Military Figures & Findings:
Interception Rate: The Royal Jordanian Air Force intercepted and destroyed 261 targets, while 20 missiles and drones were not intercepted.
Technical Failure Risks: Brigadier General Mustafa Al-Hiyari, Director of Military Media, noted a 15% failure rate for ballistic missiles and a 25% failure rate for cruise missiles. These failures increase the likelihood of projectiles falling randomly within Jordanian borders.
Low-Altitude Threats: Cruise missiles and drones often fly at low altitudes, making them prone to colliding with high-rise structures and increasing the risk of civilian casualties.
Operation "Jordan Shield": Al-Hiyari emphasized that the JAF is conducting defensive operations to protect the homeland from direct and "unjustified" targeting by Iran and its regional affiliates.
Security and Civil Impact:
Colonel Amer Al-Sartawi, spokesperson for the Public Security Directorate (PSD), provided details on the internal impact of the escalation:
Casualties: 28 injuries have been recorded among citizens due to falling debris and shrapnel.
Property Damage: Material damage has been reported to 59 houses and 31 vehicles across various governorates.
Emergency Response: The Royal Engineering Corps has deployed over 30 specialized teams nationwide to handle unexploded ordnance and fallen debris.
Strategic Position:
The briefing clarified that these projectiles were not merely "passing through" Jordanian airspace toward other targets, as some rumors suggested, but were actively targeting vital sites and installations within Jordan.
Military officials reiterated that while Jordan has explicitly stated it will not serve as a launchpad for attacks or a battlefield for others, the current strikes represent a violation of Jordanian sovereignty. In response, Jordan has activated military cooperation agreements with brotherly and friendly nations to ensure comprehensive aerial cover and maintain the safety of its civil aviation and citizens.
