Sixteen people, most of them students, were injured on Tuesday in a shooting at a technical high school in the Şanlıurfa province of southeastern Turkey, according to the Governor.
Governor Hasan Shildak, who visited the scene, informed reporters that twelve people are currently receiving medical treatment.
Shildak added that the attacker, a former student at the school born in 2007, shot himself and died.
The Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT), citing the Governor's office, stated that the injured include ten high school students and four teachers, without disclosing their medical conditions.
According to the private Turkish news agency DHA and several other Turkish media outlets, the attacker was armed with a hunting rifle.
Images broadcast by local media showed high school students fleeing the school, with a large police presence, at least one armored vehicle, and ambulances deployed at the site.
An eyewitness told the private Turkish news agency IHA that the attacker "initially fired randomly in the courtyard, then inside the building."
This type of incident is relatively rare in Turkey, where estimates from a local foundation suggest there are tens of millions of firearms in circulation, most of which are illegal.
