A specialized surgical team at Prince Rashid bin Al-Hasan Military Hospital in Irbid has successfully performed a complex operation to remove a massive 22-kilogram cancerous tumor (sarcoma) from the abdominal cavity of a 55-year-old patient.

The medical team, led by Lieutenant Colonel Dr. Ahmed Mohammad Obeidat, managed the high-risk procedure despite significant complications. Dr. Obeidat reported that the patient had been suffering from impaired kidney function, hypertension, severe respiratory distress, and limited mobility due to the size of the growth. He noted that this rare type of tumor presented a major surgical challenge because of its immense weight and its proximity to several vital organs.

Following the successful extraction, the patient has been discharged from the hospital in good health and is currently in the recovery phase.

Brigadier General Dr. Abdul Hamid Al-Adwan, Director of the hospital, emphasized that performing such major surgeries at a peripheral hospital highlights the advanced level of readiness and medical development within the Royal Medical Services. He stated that this achievement reflects a commitment to improving patient care and alleviating suffering through localized, high-level expertise.
