Mohsen Rezaei, the military advisor to Iran’s Supreme Leader and former commander of the Revolutionary Guard, issued a stern warning on Wednesday, stating that Iran would sink U.S. vessels in the Strait of Hormuz if the United States attempts to act as a "policeman" in the vital waterway.
The threat comes amid a U.S. naval blockade on Iranian ports, initiated after maritime navigation through the strait was disrupted during six weeks of conflict. Despite a fragile two-week ceasefire currently in place, tensions remain high as the blockade targets all traffic to and from Iranian coastal areas.
During an appearance on state television in military uniform, Rezaei questioned the role of the U.S. military, specifically addressing President Trump’s administration. "Your ships will be sunk by our first missiles," Rezaei stated, adding that U.S. assets in the region are vulnerable to destruction.
Rezaei, known for his hardline stance, further commented that a U.S. ground invasion would result in Iran taking "thousands of hostages," suggesting a demand of one billion dollars for each. He also expressed his personal opposition to extending the current ceasefire, though he did not elaborate on official policy regarding the truce.
