Brazilian voters headed to the polling stations today, Sunday, from eight o'clock, to elect a president for them in the second round of the presidential elections.

For months, opinion polls had predicted a third term of four years for the country's leftist former president Luis Inacio Lula da Silva (2003-2010), but the outgoing far-right president, Jair Bolsonaro, 67, retains some hope after the unexpected result he scored in the first round. He won the elections on the second of October, with 43 percent of the vote, compared to 48 percent for Lula.

According to Agence France-Presse, more than 156 million Brazilians were called today to elect a president, in a poll with an unclear result following a campaign that witnessed a high tension atmosphere.
