Mohammad Shehadeh Al-Hadid, head of the Syndicate of Taxi and Public Vehicle Office Owners, announced on Wednesday that taxi meter rates will be adjusted starting next Monday, with an expected increase ranging between one and two piasters. Under the new pricing, the daytime starting fare will rise to 39 piasters from 37, while the nighttime starting fare will move to 40 piasters from 38.
​The per-kilometer rate during the day will increase from 26 piasters to 28 piasters, and the nighttime rate will rise from 32 piasters to 33 piasters. Al-Hadid noted that taxi drivers have absorbed a portion of rising fuel costs, as the new tariff does not fully reflect the total increase in operational expenses.
​Simultaneously, Abla Al-Washah, spokesperson for the Land Transport Regulatory Commission (LTRC), stated that transport costs via ride-hailing applications will increase by 20%. The commission's broader decision to adjust public transport fares includes a 5-piaster increase for approximately 75% of routes and a 10-piaster increase for the remaining 25% of longer routes, aiming to balance operational costs with service continuity.
