AMMAN — King Abdullah II, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, sent a letter Wednesday to the newly appointed Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Maj. Gen. Majdi Al-Harasees.
The text of the letter follows:
"In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Dear Brother Maj. Gen. Majdi Al-Harasees, may God protect you,
Peace, mercy and blessings of God be upon you.
It gives me pleasure to extend to you, and to your fellow officers and servicewomen across the Jordan Armed Forces–Arab Army, a greeting filled with appreciation and pride in each and every one of them, wherever they serve.
Throughout your service in our armed forces, we have known you as a soldier devoted to our beloved homeland and a distinguished officer in the Arab Army. Today, having issued our directive appointing you Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, we entrust you with the responsibility of serving our precious Jordan and carrying out this duty with the utmost care and dedication.
Dear brother,
The armed forces enjoy the appreciation and respect of all Jordanians, as their officers, non-commissioned officers and enlisted personnel continue to set the finest examples of courage, honor and devotion, standing watch over Jordan's land and skies and confronting any threat to the nation's assets and to the security and safety of its citizens.
As you take up the responsibility of this leadership role, keep the homeland foremost in your sight, and spare no effort in serving Jordan and its people, mindful of the importance of this storied national institution and the need to safeguard its good reputation and standing, while continuing to strengthen its capabilities so it remains the nation's shield and stronghold.
We therefore direct you to follow through on our armed forces' restructuring efforts and the development of the Arab Army's capabilities and the modernization of its tools, enabling it to carry out its responsibilities and meet emerging challenges, developments and threats with the highest levels of competence and readiness.
