U.S. President Donald Trump suggested changing the name of the Strait of Hormuz to the "Trump Strait," in a post on the "Truth Social" platform, stating: "Now that we have it under U.S.A. control, should we change the name Hormuz Strait to TRUMP STRAIT???"
​Trump added: "Like America itself, it would be 'hotter' than ever before!", concluding his post by saying: "Thank you for your attention to this matter."
​The United States reimposed a naval blockade on Iranian ports in the Strait of Hormuz following renewed confrontations described as the fiercest since the ceasefire that came into effect between the two sides in April.
​Iran warned that resuming the naval blockade on its ports undermines the memorandum of understanding with Washington.
​The war broke out on February 28, when Israel and the United States attacked Iran, to which Tehran responded by closing the Strait of Hormuz, which prior to the war served as the main waterway for nearly a fifth of the world's energy supplies.
​The Strait of Hormuz is considered one of the most prominent flashpoints in the conflict. Iran's control over the strait granted it immense leverage, effectively allowing it to hold a key bargaining chip.
