Yesterday, Thursday, the American judiciary charged the son of US President Joe Biden with illegal possession of a firearm, while an opinion poll showed that the vast majority of Republicans support the impeachment of the president.
Yesterday, Thursday, a federal jury brought several charges against Hunter Biden (53 years old), including providing false information to be able to purchase a firearm in the state of Delaware in 2018, where he denied that he was using drugs, after he had admitted at that time that he was using them.
The court documents stated that Hunter Biden knowingly provided a false written statement, which enabled him to illegally possess a firearm.
If convicted of illegally purchasing a weapon, the US President's son could face a prison sentence of up to ten years.
Efforts to remove the president
The legal problems faced by Hunter Biden (53 years old), who suffered for many years due to problems related to drug and alcohol addiction, cast a shadow over his father's re-election campaign.
Last Tuesday, the Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Republican Kevin McCarthy, called for Democratic President Biden to be subjected to investigation with the aim of removing him, accusing him of lying to the American people about his son’s controversial actions abroad.
The White House denounced the move and considered it “politically motivated,” as it comes a year before the presidential elections.

McCarthy told Congress, “I ask a committee in the House of Representatives to begin official investigations into the existence of compelling reasons to impeach Biden,” noting that Republicans in the House of Representatives have revealed “serious and credible allegations.” Regarding the behavior of President Biden,” he accused him of fueling a “culture of corruption.”
Republicans - who now narrowly control the House of Representatives - accuse Biden of profiting while serving as Vice President from 2009 to 2017 from the foreign business ventures of his son Hunter Biden, but they have not provided evidence to prove this.
Poll
In a related context, an opinion poll conducted by Ipsos Research showed that the American street is divided regarding Republican efforts to investigate Democratic President Biden with the aim of isolating him.
41% of those polled expressed their support for Congress to open an investigation that could lead to Biden being held accountable for the purpose of removing him regarding allegations regarding his son Hunter’s business dealings abroad. While 35% of them opposed opening the investigation, and 24% said that they had not decided whether to support or oppose the step.
According to the poll, in which about 4,500 Americans participated, 71% of Republicans support impeaching Biden, while only 18% of Democrats expressed their support for the step.
Last Tuesday, the White House criticized the efforts made by Republican representatives in Congress to open an investigation next fall with the aim of isolating President Joe Biden.
White House spokesman Ian Sams said in a statement that this investigation is baseless and would be a disaster for Republicans in Congress. He continued that there are Republican representatives who admit that there is no evidence for their false claims, and that following such a partisan trick will backfire, he said.
