The midterm elections race is entering its final phase as the campaigns wind down, on the eve of a date that could drown out Joe Biden's presidency, erode Western support for Ukraine, and even open the way for former President Donald Trump's return to power.
Nearly 40 million Americans cast their ballots early, knowing that polling stations open Tuesday.
In a remarkable move, the new owner of Twitter, billionaire Elon Musk, on Monday called on voters in the United States to support the Republican candidates.
"Power sharing limits the worst abuses that can come from bipartisanship, so I recommend voting for a Republican Congress, given that the President is a Democrat," Musk, who has 114 million followers on Twitter, said in a tweet.
Meanwhile, Russian businessmen Yevgeny Prigozhin admitted Monday that Russia is seeking to influence the results.
"We have intervened, we are doing it and we will continue to do it. Carefully and meticulously, in a positional way, in our own way," Prigogine said.
Prigogine is subject to US and European sanctions and has been accused for several years of interfering in US elections, especially the 2016 presidential election that brought Trump to power.
In his latest statements, Biden warned that American democracy is at stake, and the Democratic president is scheduled to conclude his campaigns to support the party's candidates during the Monday rally, near Baltimore.
In contrast, the Republican billionaire is participating in Monday's meeting in Ohio, an industrial state.
Opinion polls Republicans heading for a majority in the House of Representatives, with the increasingly far-right party looking to block Biden's projects with massive investigations and opposition to his spending projects.
Republican Kevin McCarthy, who is likely to lead the House of Representatives, did not rule out launching measures to impeach Biden.
"We will never use the isolation measures for political purposes," McCarthy said in a statement to the American "CNN" news network, but added, "This does not mean that this measure will not be used if matters require it."
But the question hovering over the fate of the majority in the Senate, while Biden is counting on its survival in the hands of Democrats to maintain the ability to fight the Republicans.
Republican control of both houses of Congress would bring down the Democratic president's legislative agenda.
In this case, questions will be raised about everything from the climate crisis policies that Biden will present at COP27 in Egypt this week, to the Ukraine file, where Republicans are not eager to maintain the same pace of financial and military aid.
While McCarthy insisted on his support for the Ukrainian struggle, he told CNN that there would be no "blank instrument" in this regard, in restoring the position of the far-right wing pro-Trump in his party.
And the course that things will take on Tuesday will determine whether the president, who turns 80 this month and is the oldest in office in his country, will run for a second term or announce his refusal to do so, which will plunge his party into new uncertainty.
"Warning alarm"
The competition revolves around all 435 seats in the House of Representatives, a third of the Senate's total 100 seats and a number of government positions.
Meanwhile, Democratic candidates were given a boost during the election campaign by the party's most popular politicians, including former Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton, in an effort to avoid a predictable Republican "wave".
But the Democratic Party's popularity has been waning since the summer, as Republicans focus their campaigns on accelerating inflation, crime and irregular immigration, files that burden the Democratic administration.
"That would be a wake-up call for President Biden," Virginia Republican Governor Glenn Youngkin said. Yongkin is one of the rising figures in the Republican Party and their names will be proposed for the presidency in 2024.
Although the Senate race appears to be heated, Democrats hope to retain their slim majority in the Senate thanks to Vice President Kamala Harris, who has the most likely vote.
Dave Wasserman, a writer in the Cook Political Report, said Republican candidates have a slim advantage over undecided voters.
Wasserman said in a statement to the network "MSN. Me. That. Me", that the Republicans may gain between 15 and 25 seats in the House of Representatives, as well as the seat that gives them an absolute majority in the Senate.
The polls indicate that the competition will be fierce in the states of Pennsylvania, Nevada, Arizona, Georgia, Wisconsin, New Hampshire and Ohio. And any of these states is capable of tipping the balance of power.
