Indian Finance Minister Nirmala Sitara said during an event on Wednesday in New Delhi that the conflict between Israel and Gaza is “worrying evidence” of the geopolitical challenges facing the multilateral economic corridor supported by the United States.
In September, world leaders announced a railway and port agreement linking the Middle East and South Asia, as the United States seeks to compete with China's Belt and Road Initiative, which establishes global infrastructure, with a new economic and trade corridor.
The proposed corridor will pass through Israel, which is currently locked in a fierce conflict with Hamas in the Gaza Strip after an attack carried out by the movement on Israel on October 7.
Sitara said during a conference that the corridor “is not without its geopolitical challenges, and the ongoing conflict in Israel and Gaza is worrying evidence of it.”
