The number of electronic wallets in Jordan increased by the end of last October, to 1.98 million, compared to 1.91 million wallets last September, an increase of 3.7%, according to the report of the Jordanian Payment and Clearing Systems Company (JOPAC).
The company added, in its report issued last month, which was reviewed by the Kingdom, that 1.36 million transactions were executed through the mobile payment system, compared to 950,000 transactions in September, an increase of 43.2%.
She indicated that the value of transactions of the payment system through the wallets amounted to 173 million dinars last month, compared to 125 million dinars in the previous month, an increase of 38.4%, according to the report, which indicated that 96.4% of these funds were through money transfer and 2.4% as withdrawals.
The report showed that 62.1% of e-wallets clients are males, with a number of 1.22 million people, and 37.9% of clients are females, with a number of 740 thousand females.
The statistics of users were distributed by age group to 5,000 for the age group under 18 years, 664 thousand for ages (18 to 30 years), 458 thousand for ages 31 to 40, and 344 thousand for ages 41 to 50.
To 213,000 customers aged between 51 to 60 years, 72,000 for ages 61 to 70, 30,000 for ages 71 to 80, and 9,000 for ages 81 to 90.
On January 16, 2017, the Central Bank of Jordan and 25 banks operating in Jordan agreed to establish the “Jordanian Company for Payment and Clearing Systems,” a private company limited by shares, headquartered in Amman, Jordan, with an authorized capital of 12 million Jordanian dinars.
