The former Deputy Prime Minister, His Excellency Dr. Jawad Al-Anani, was a distinguished guest at the Rum News Agency and Al-Shahed Media Group in our offices, where he engaged in a significant and beautiful meeting with fresh statements.
Al-Anani began his interview with Rum by discussing the presence of political parties in the upcoming House of Representatives, considering their existence a political lever for parliamentary life in Jordan.
Al-Anani believes that the performance of Dr. Bisher Al-Khasawneh’s government concerning the economic file is satisfactory. He said, “We should not accuse them of negligence because they tried to make significant efforts, but given the volatile and unexpected circumstances that Jordan went through, their performance was acceptable.” He continued, mentioning the rise in debt ratio, a deficit in the state’s general budget, and concerning unemployment rates among young men and women, which Jordan is capable of resolving.
Regarding the investment file, Al-Anani stated that we currently have investment-related problems that must be solved.
On another note, Al-Anani highlighted his departure from Hani Al-Mulki’s government, commenting, “I saw, and he saw, that it was better for me not to stay in the government. I was not alone, as Al-Mulki had disagreements with other ministers who left the government with me. There was no personal dispute between me and Al-Mulki, but there were differences in vision.”
Al-Anani sees that if he were offered to form a government, he would certainly accept.
Al-Anani recounted the details of his first meeting with the late great His Majesty King Hussein bin Talal, may God bless his soul, saying, “In 1976, after the International Development Conference held in Jordan and after presenting the First Five-Year Plan, I submitted two papers that caught the attention of Prince Hassan bin Talal. Later, I presented the plan at the Medical City to the armed forces, where about 400-500 officers from various security agencies were seated, and the scene was majestic. Dr. Hanna Odeh, may God have mercy on him, was the head of the National Planning Council and was supposed to explain the plan, but he couldn’t due to a fainting spell, so I explained it in front of King Hussein bin Talal, narrating it as a coherent story. Everyone listened attentively, and when I finished, I received loud applause, and His Majesty King Hussein then said, ‘Where have they been hiding this young man?’ and I knew then that it was the beginning.”
Al-Anani described the scene of King Hussein bin Talal’s coronation as king of Jordan when he was ten years old, saying he was as sharp as an arrow and spear due to the awe he commanded, may God have mercy on him. He continued, recalling this story to King Hussein, who was very pleased, and added that the moment of King Hussein’s death was very difficult, as he went out with Her Majesty Queen Noor at that time to inform the people that Hussein had passed away and moved to God’s mercy.
Al-Anani mentioned many situations that brought him together with Prince Hassan bin Talal, which reflect the strong relationship between Al-Anani and Prince Hassan and the visits Al-Anani accompanied him on.
Al-Anani chose “A Fortunate Young Man” as a suitable title for his life story.
Al-Anani posed a question to a specific person without naming them, asking why they did a certain thing.
Regarding his relationship with his grandchildren, Al-Anani said, “I spoil them at the expense of their parents, and with grandchildren, there are no barriers.”
Al-Anani indicated that he was fought by people who thought he did not know they were fighting him.
On the subject of friendship, Al-Anani said that he has many friends, but his colleagues from the Central Bank are special and hold a special place for him.
Al-Anani noted that his trust in his older children is great, and he continued, saying to one of his sons, “Why did you leave a job somewhere, and how did it affect your life afterward?”
Al-Anani addressed words to Zaid Al-Rifai, implying, “You are a statesman and were not lucky enough to implement your programs,” and about the late Wasfi Al-Tal, “I know you preserved the Jordanian state,” and to Al-Mulki, “God forgive you.”
