Amman, June 11, 2024: Zain Jordan has signed a cooperation agreement with Abu Shaqra Trading Company to enhance joint efforts in protecting the marine environment and coastal shores of Aqaba city. This collaboration includes organizing periodic campaigns to clean the depths of the Red Sea using Abu Shaqra’s specialized vessel.
Under this agreement, Zain will be able to organize a greater number of initiatives to clean the Red Sea’s depths and Aqaba’s shores from environmentally harmful waste. These efforts began in 2022 in partnership with the ‘ProjectSea’ initiative, led by a group of professional and volunteer divers from Jordan. The agreement also expands Zain’s collaboration with professional divers and various volunteer organizations that organize environmental events in Aqaba, enabling the targeting of new and different beaches and locations each time.
Through this cooperation, Zain reaffirms its commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals adopted in all its programs and initiatives, particularly Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), Goal 13 (Climate Action), Goal 14 (Life Below Water), and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). This is in addition to supporting all efforts to position Aqaba as a global tourist destination, continuing the company’s efforts within its sustainability management strategy, which pays significant attention to environmental conservation and promoting sound environmental practices to contribute to mitigating the effects of climate change and working towards a better future for the coming generations.
Abu Shaqra Trading Company highlighted that this agreement would enable it to enhance its role in environmental protection and conservation. The company emphasized its eagerness to cooperate with Zain Jordan, a leader in corporate social responsibility, especially in initiatives concerned with environmental preservation, in addition to supporting Aqaba governorate and promoting tourism.
It is worth mentioning that Zain had organized, in cooperation with the ‘ProjectSea’ initiative, two campaigns to clean the depths of the Red Sea and contributed to extracting thousands of pieces of waste stuck in the sea."
