The Iraqi Ministry of Interior announced late Monday the arrest of an Egyptian suspect who killed four Egyptian citizens, dismembered their bodies, and distributed the parts around the city of Basra in southern Iraq.
In a statement posted on its Facebook and "X" accounts, the Iraqi Ministry of Interior said, "After receiving reports from the Basra Police about the discovery of dismembered body parts in two garbage dumps in the Al-Tuwaytha and Oil Residences areas, the Basra Police, with the support of intelligence efforts, began necessary procedures. Through field follow-up and technical work, evidence related to the murder was found, including blood-stained clothes, a hammer, a knife, and hair remnants."
The ministry's statement added, "As the police expanded their investigation, they discovered that four missing persons were Egyptian nationals, as reported by the Egyptian consulate in Basra. These individuals were working in houses under construction."
The Iraqi Ministry of Interior concluded, "Through thorough investigation and police work, the perpetrator was identified and arrested after fleeing to Baghdad province. The suspect, also an Egyptian national, confessed to killing the four individuals, dismembering their bodies, and distributing them in various areas of Basra city center. His statements were recorded, and all evidence related to the crime was collected."
