**Warning:** Do not download any applications on your phones from outside official stores (Apple Store, Google Play).
The Cybercrimes Unit has dealt with several complaints regarding account theft, and the stealing of photos and videos stored on mobile phones after downloading untrusted applications. Victims have been subjected to extortion as a result.
Fraudulent applications use attractive names such as "Azkar App" and "Al-Aqsa Platform." Once downloaded, they steal accounts, grant access to photos and data, and extort owners for money.
The media spokesperson for the Public Security Directorate stated that the Cybercrimes Unit has recently handled several cases of hacking and electronic extortion in various forms.
The complaints involved victims downloading applications from the internet outside official stores (Google Play, Apple Store). These specially designed programs take control of accounts, steal data and photos, and extort account owners to restore accounts and not publish photos in exchange for money.
The spokesperson emphasized that these applications use attractive names like "Azkar" and "Al-Aqsa Platform" to lure victims. The public is urged not to download any unknown or untrusted applications from unsafe sites and pages on the internet that request access to personal information, photos, and videos, which exposes them to electronic extortion.
The Cybercrimes Unit urges all citizens and residents to only download programs or applications from official stores and websites. Do not respond to those who send links to download these applications or programs. Ensure to review the permissions granted to applications before downloading. If exposed to such cases, immediately contact the Cybercrimes Unit.
