The University of Jordan is steadily progressing with its major national projects focusing on digital transformation and enhancing soft skills among students to meet new global challenges and rapid changes.
Dr. Nather Abdat, the university's president, highlighted the significant transition that higher education is undergoing, necessitating comprehensive restructuring to incorporate technological advancements into academic programs. He emphasized the university's commitment to preparing future generations to face emerging challenges.
To this end, Dr. Abdat's team, including vice presidents, deans, faculty, and administrators, is working towards forging a new contract between universities and society, aiming to understand and meet societal needs effectively.
During a retreat with college deans and center directors, Dr. Abdat discussed the essential soft skills that students need to acquire based on their specialties, including communication, problem-solving, teamwork, leadership, critical thinking, resilience, empathy, and adaptability.
The university has begun integrating technology and artificial intelligence into its curriculum, mandating 9 credit hours in both English and Arabic, 6 hours in digital skills, and 9 hours in job preparation.
Additionally, the university is establishing partnerships with business, industry, and financial sectors to bridge the gap between academic output and market needs. It has also introduced various training programs across numerous disciplines, from teacher training to health, engineering, and humanities.
The university is updating its academic plans to align with market requirements and incorporate AI. This includes the largest project in its history to modernize classrooms and lecture halls with cutting-edge technology, enhancing infrastructure to support contemporary education.
Ranked 368th globally and 110th for graduate employability in the recent QS World University Rankings, the university aims to maintain and improve its standing through well-planned strategies. These efforts reflect the royal directives and align with Jordan's modernization vision, ensuring future generations play a vital role in the nation's growth and prosperity.
