The Secretary-General of the Erada Party, Nidal Al-Batayneh, delivered a recorded message today to the party's general assembly members, providing a thorough clarification on the rumors that attempted to tarnish the party's reputation yesterday. Al-Batayneh expressed his pride in the general assembly's solidarity with the party's leadership and their trust in it, highlighting this as a strong indicator of the party's internal unity and resilience. He emphasized that Erada is a sustainable party, not a temporary one.
This response came after reports circulated about the referral of the party's Secretary-General and others to the Attorney General, according to media reports based on statements from the Independent Election Commission.
Al-Batayneh mentioned that neither he nor the party had received any official notification regarding the matter at the time of issuing this statement. He dismissed the uproar as a controversial spectacle, revealing that he learned of the news from his family. He added that it is inappropriate to defame a respected national party based on a Facebook post by a young member, which was later deleted after his colleagues explained the situation to him. The information should remain confidential and under the jurisdiction of the fair Jordanian judiciary. The leak led to unjust accusations against the party and its Secretary-General, involving them in a political money scandal without any proof or investigation.
He explained that the request to refer the Secretary-General and others to the public prosecutor stemmed from a social media post by a young party member, who mistakenly believed that financial inability would disqualify him from being chosen for the party list. Al-Batayneh clarified that the party had not finalized its list or required financial capability as a criterion for selection. The young member deleted his post the same day after understanding the process, and apologized for his misunderstanding. The party has not yet announced its official candidate list, and the evaluation committee’s decision is pending.
Al-Batayneh assured that the party would support any chosen member, regardless of their ability to fund their campaign, highlighting the party’s commitment to backing young candidates. He warned those attempting to harm the party that their actions would only discourage the youth, affirming that the party would legally address any slander.
He emphasized that Erada Party is a programmatic party built by the working class, with unprecedented spread across the kingdom. The party’s recent achievements demonstrated its strength, securing leadership positions in university student unions and local administration councils, proving its credibility in a short time. The party has taken firm stances on various local issues, including the proposed cybercrime law, the general budget proposal, ongoing support for Palestinians, and a resolute position on the Gaza conflict. The party has consistently upheld its national principles, including loyalty to the Hashemite leadership, armed forces, and security agencies.
Al-Batayneh unequivocally denied any involvement of the party in political money dealings, stressing that the party does not sell seats or engage in such practices. He reiterated that the party would support eligible candidates who can represent the party well and that the campaign costs would be shared equitably among members.
He revealed that the party had rejected lucrative offers to sell seats earlier this year, informing the authorities of these offers. The party's seats are not for sale.
In his statement, Al-Batayneh highlighted the unique flavor Erada brings to the political process, as the party’s youth have toured the country’s rural areas, camps, and villages in support of their party. He expressed confidence in the party list, which will be a source of pride for Jordan and Erada members. The delay in announcing the list is due to the party's commitment to a transparent and impartial selection process led by a trusted evaluation committee.
The committee will hold a final meeting on Saturday, followed by a review by the Supreme Nominations Committee on Sunday, with results to be announced in a press conference.
Al-Batayneh thanked the general assembly members for their support and confidence in the party’s vision and leadership, stating that challenges only strengthen the party. He affirmed that the recent rumor was a minor obstacle in the party’s long journey to achieve and implement its national project, which all members believe in. The incident has fortified the party’s resolve, and Erada is dedicated to a better future for the next generation, positioning itself as the party of workers, farmers, and the provinces. Al-Batayneh concluded that Erada is on the right path, steadily progressing, and poised to achieve significant results in the upcoming parliamentary elections, driven by its members, supporters, and comprehensive, realistic program, which will be published in the coming days.
