At the recent NATO Foundation conference held on July 8th in Rome, key discussions focused on the promotion of universal values by the North and West to the Global South and the role of NATO in addressing the ongoing crisis in Gaza.

A prominent speaker at the conference highlighted the risks NATO members face by not taking decisive actions in Gaza, warning of potential complicity in the region's tragic events. In his opening remarks, he questioned, "What is left of the universal values promoted by the North and West to the Global South? By not acting decisively and dwelling in grey zones, NATO members risk complicity in Gaza’s tragic events."

The speaker further addressed the feasibility of peace in the Middle East, given the cycle of violence. Responding to a question posed at the conference, he expressed optimism, stating, "Yes it will, if and only NATO member states officially recognize the Palestinian state and have a clear road map for a peace process."

The event, titled "NATO 2024: Beyond the 75th Anniversary," facilitated discussions on critical geopolitical issues and the role of NATO in fostering peace and stability. The speaker shared a five-minute video summarizing his key messages and reflections from the conference.
